The Story of X and how to Market on it

As we all know, Twitter was changed to X by Elon Musk. There are some very interesting points that came from Musk taking over and the name change. Some are bad, some are good for the future.

First off, when Musk purchased Twitter in 2022, fifty of the top advertisers were lost. After that disaster, Musk appointed someone else as the CEO in an attempt to gain back the advertising that was lost. When Musk changed the name, he clearly had visions of the future for X. He wants X to be a place of unlimited interactivity. His vision is something that isn't exactly for the near future, but it will be an interesting story to watch. Some think that X won't stick as the name, but Musk is unlikely to change it back.

In terms of popularity X is only the fourteenth most popular social media app in the world. Obviously, that isn't ideal for marketing, but there are other reasons to market on an app. For example, people spend 26% more time viewing ads on X compared to other leading apps. This ensures a higher rate of interaction for whatever your business posts.

When making posts on X, there tends to be a more casual theme as opposed to professional like Facebook. They recently doubled the character space for one post, so that gives users more freedom for what they post.

Another interesting fact is that tagging people in a post increases the chance of retweets by the people tagged. This could be a way to reach more users. An important note about advertising on X is that they have seven different ad formats. There are many different choices for a company and a certain format may work well with a specific type of post.

In the end, X is a unique place to advertise on. It is also owned by a unique man. The future of X will be something to watch, if they can get close to Musk's vision then X will be a powerhouse in the media world.

  1. I remember when Twitter was bought out by Elon. I did not use Twitter at the time so I could care less. Then found myself on it more frequently and enjoying it. As soon as the name change was going into affect I knew the future of this platform was going to be different. Although not a lot has changed I feel like Elon Musk is very cappable to do whatever he wants to with it and that will be interesting to see in the future.

  2. Elon changing the name of Twitter is probably one of the weirdest things he's done. It was very out of the blue and pretty unnecessary. I think within the next 10 years, X is going to move higher up in the rankings of the one of the more popular social media apps and will be up there as one of the best marketing apps. With the power in Elon's hands, anything is possible.
