TikTok- Marketing and Facts

Surprisingly, TikTok started in 2016. I would have never guessed that it has been around for that long, but it was only available in China. It then merged with Musical.ly in 2018 and was available to the whole world. After that, TikTok was the most downloaded ap from 2019-2023. Now, over 1 billion people use TikTok per month, ranking them sixth in most popular social media platforms.

For some statistics on TikTok, the 18-24 age range has the highest usage rate among any other generation. The 25-34 age range is right behind them, however. After that, it is a huge drop off to the other generations. More women use the app at 53.5%. The average daily usage is 95 minutes, which is crazy to think about. Also, the U.S is currently the number one country for TikTok.

When it comes to marketing with TikTok, it is newer than most social media apps. There wasn't a huge marketing or ad presence up until not that long ago. But now ads are becoming more and more common, and TikTok is already really good at giving you what you want.

The formula to feed you content that you subconsciously want to watch can be taken to the next level with ads. I know I just bought my first thing from
TikTok, I bought control freaks for PlayStation that were half off. TikTok knew that I loved playing MLB the show, so I saw multiple ads for them and then considered buying it.
The stats show that 47% of users have bought something they've seen on TikTok, which isn't as high as some other apps but I'm sure that will continue to rise.

If any app was a winner from COVID, it was TikTok. It absolutely took off during COVID and continued its rise after. It gave people a space to share their thoughts or experiences and really feel a sense of togetherness. Personally, that is when I started watching TikTok, and I know a lot of my friends were the same way.

In the end, TikTok is clearly the social media app with the most upside right now. Although there has been some talk about banning it in the U.S, nothing seems to be solidified right now. Assuming that passes over, TikTok should continue to rise and be in our lives for a long time.
